Rheology of self-compacting concrete made of recycled brick aggregate Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) has high potential for wider structural applications such as highway bridges and high rise building constructions. The shape, size, and texture of the brick aggregate make the rheology of SCC different from natural aggregate SCC. In the case of recycled brick aggregate it could be more challenging. A group of undergraduate thesis students are working on this to understand this phenomenon and to compare this with virgin aggregate. We are also trying to develop the numerical model for recycled concrete rheology.

Utilization of locally made steel fiber in concrete to increase the ductility Use of steel fiber in concrete is very popular for its beneficial properties in terms of ductility and resistance to crack propagation. A detailed experimental works is going on to investigate the mechanical properties of steel fiber reinforced concrete (especially for recycled aggregate). For this, cylinder specimens and beam specimens are tested for compressive strength, tensile strength, stress-strain, Young’s modulus, modulus of rupture, and load-displacement response with different aspect ratio of fiber. The fiber percentages are also varied.

Mechanical and bond properties of various bamboos available in Bangladesh Bamboo is a material of choice for making sustainable low cost houses and bridges in Bangladesh. Utilization of bamboo as a replacement of steel reinforcement has been a topic of research for the decades for high tensile and flexural strength capacity along its fiber direction. However, no systematic research work have been undertaken to understand the fundamental phenomenon to utilize bamboo in civil engineering structure. Four types of bamboo were tested to determine the strength, Young’s modulus, and stress-strain responses. In addition to this, shear bond behavior of these bamboos were also determined considering different bond length and bond surface area.

100 Years Exposure Test on Carbonation of Concrete in Dhaka City Carbonation of concrete is found to be a major factor related to the corrosion of steel in concrete in Dhaka City. Therefore, a plan has been made for investigation on the rate of carbonation of concrete in Dhaka City for 100 years of exposure period.
