OIA organizes seminar on “ABET Accreditation and Avenues for Articulation with Youngstown State University, USA”

The Office of International Affairs (OIA) of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) organized a seminar titled “ABET Accreditation and Avenues for Articulation with Youngstown State University, USA” on June 21, 2022 at the university auditorium.

Dr. Anwarul Islam, Professor and Program Coordinator, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Youngstown State University, USA was the keynote speaker at the seminar. In his speech, Dr. Islam shed light on the prerequisites of ABET accreditation as well as on how specific programs of an institution can get accredited by ABET which ensures the quality of standards of the degrees offered e.g. engineering degrees. Dr. Islam also focused on the possibilities of collaboration between UAP and Youngstown State University, USA.

The session was commenced with an introduction on Dr. Islam presented by Ms. Ismat Zarin, Director, OIA and Assistant Professor, Department of English while Professor Dr. Muhammad Mizanur Rahaman, Dean, School of Engineering delivered the welcome remarks.

Dr. Islam received his BS (1992) in civil engineering from BUET, MS (2000) and PhD (2005) in civil engineering from The Florida State University. The $1 billion Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge project in Bangladesh, Expressway Bridges and buildings projects for Public Works Department in Singapore are the notable projects where he worked in various capacities.

In honor of Dr. Islam’s visit at UAP, a crest was presented to him on behalf of the OIA. Later, the speaker along with all the faculty members gathered for a group photo.
