DSW organized an online reading circle on Gender Issues

On 5 October 2021, DSW in association with Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) organized an online reading circle titled “পুরুষতান্ত্রিক মনোভাবঃ নারী পুরুষের সমতায় অন্তরায়”. More than 80 students and faculty members from different departments participated in the event.

The program was moderated by Ms. Afroja Arman, Research Officer, BMP. In the welcome speech, Ms. Rina Ahmed, Secretary, Training, Research and Library, BMP, briefed the mission, vision and activities of the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad while described how the existing gender issues in Bangladesh are mostly suffered due to the patriarchal attitude of the majority.

Then, the main part of the event- “reading circle” took place where the virtual floor was open for the students. The students participated in the session in an interactive way, and gave their opinions, shared their life experiences and asked many questions to the learned guests from BMP.

Ms. Shima Moslem, Joint General Secretary, BMP delivered her speech as the special guest where she, eloquently, addressed most of the queries and opinions of the participants. The guests were very happy with the engagements and students’ insight into the reading circle.

The program was presided by Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Director, DSW and Treasurer, UAP. He ended the program with a vote of thanks to BMP for arranging the event at UAP. He also shared how, in Bangladesh, women’s are moving forward to every sector and touching the pinnacle of excellence.

The seminar was also addressed by Ms. Nazia Wahab, Asst. Prof., L&HR, and Adviser, UAP Debating and Public Speaking Club (DPSC).

Among others, the program was attended by Mr. Md. Tarek Khan, AD, DSW and Mst. Farjana Yasmin, Socio Counselor, UAP. UAP DPSC was the club partner of the event.
