The Debating and Public Speaking Club (DPSC), under the Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW) at the University of Asia Pacific (UAP), successfully organized its flagship intra-university debate competition titled ‘War of Words 1.0’. The competition, held on February 28, 2025, brought together 30 students from various departments, forming 10 teams that showcased their oratory skills and critical thinking in a spirited battle of words.
The grand final and prize-giving ceremony took place on Sunday, 9 March 2025, in UAP auditorium attended by nearly 150 students. The event was graced by Dr. Debasish Kumar Kundu, a renowned debater, Associate Professor at the University of Dhaka, and former President of DUDS, who attended as the special guest. The event was also presided over by Dr. A. S. M. Mohsin, Director of DSW, UAP.
The finalists, Team Objection Overruled and Team Maverick, engaged in a compelling final debate that enthralled the audience. Team Objection Overruled, comprising Merazul Islam and Mehrajun Sakin from the Law Department, and Nowrin Nahar Brishty from the Pharmacy Department, clinched the championship title with their outstanding performance. Team Maverick, consisting of Sajid Mahmud Uthso and Hasan Pial from the Civil Engineering Department, and Sadequr Rahman from the Pharmacy Department, earned the runner-up position after a fierce contest.
The event aimed to foster essential communication, critical thinking, and professional soft skills among students. It served as a platform for participants to hone their debating abilities, preparing them to represent UAP at inter-university debate competitions at the national level.
Through ‘War of Words 1.0’, DPSC continues its commitment to nurturing articulate, thoughtful, and confident future leaders, enhancing the reputation of UAP across academic and public forums alike.
