Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury joins UAP as the New Vice Chancellor

Eminent Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, joined University of Asia Pacific (UAP) as the Vice Chancellor on May 2, 2012. He came to the Administration premises of UAP in the morning, had a courtesy meeting with the Acting Chairperson of Board of Trustees of UAP  Mr. Abdul Mohin Chowdhury, the Treasurer of BOT Al-haj Abdul Malek Mollah, Pro Vice Chancellor Professor M. R. Kabir, Treasurer of University of Asia Pacific Dr. M. Alauddin.

Head of the Department of EEE, UAP Dr. Md. Sekendar Ali welcomed the new Vice Chancellor of UAP Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury on behalf of the Heads and the Deans of all Departments of UAP

 

Later on Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury had a meet and greet session with the Pro Vice Chancellor and the Dean of School of Environment and Design Prof. Dr. Shamsul Wares, Dean of the School of Engineering Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, Head of the Department of Architecture Prof. Dr. M. Abu Sayeed, Head of the Department of Basic Science and Humanities Prof. Dr. Sultan Mahmud, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering Aloke Kumar Saha, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Prof. Dr. Md. Sekendar Ali, Head of the Department of English Prof. M. Amanullah, Head of the Department of  L& HR Prof. Dr. Mir Shamsur Rahman, Head of the Department of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed.

 

Brief Profile of Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury:
Professor. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury is a prominent educationist and a former Adviser to caretaker Government of Bangladesh. He is a renowned Engineer, researcher and scientist. He has received numerous accolades for his valuable contributions and achievements in education, infrastructure development, science, ICT policy formulation and research.
Prof. Choudhury graduated from Engineering University Dhaka in 1963 and joined there as a lecturer in the department of Civil Engineering in the same year. 1n 1964 he went to England for higher education with a scholarship from the oil company Burma Shell. After completing his Masters in Advanced Structural Engineering and Ph.D. from University of Southampton he returned to Bangladesh in 1968. He was appointed as a Professor of Civil Engineering in 1976.   
Prof. Choudhury was a Member of Panel of Experts (advising the Government, the World Bank, Asia Development Bank and OECF, Japan) for the 4.8 Km long Bangabandhu (Jamuna) Bridge. He was the team leader in multipurpose Cyclone Shelter Programme and prepared the Master Plan for Cyclone shelters in the coastal areas of Bangladesh. He is currently the Chairman of International Panel of Experts for the Padma Bridge. He headed many Task Force and committees formed by the Government of Bangladesh for formulation of ICT Policy (2009), currently being implemented by the Government.
Prof. Choudhury is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (Bangladesh) and was its President in 1992-1993. HE was a Fellow of Institution of Civil Engineers (UK) and a Chartered Engineer, UK. He is a Fellow of Bangladesh Computer Society. Prof. Choudhury was Chairman, Board of Director of Bangladesh Shilpa Bank (1996-1998) and was the Chairman, Board of Governors, Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Chittagong. He is the President of Bangladesh Math Olympiad Committee. He is a source of motivation and inspiration for students and role model for the teachers.
